CRA filing and payment deadline for 2020 tax year
April 30 is fast approaching; this is the filing deadline for most individuals. However, this is not the case for everyone, filing and payment deadlines depends whether you are an employed individual or self-employed individual, a corporation, and the list goes on. Below is a summary of filing and payments deadline for 2020 tax year.
Employed Individuals, or
Deceased employed individuals and cohabiting spouse or common-law partner
(if the death occurred between January 1 and October 31, 2020, inclusive)
- Filing – April 30, 2021
- Payment – April 30, 2021
Deceased employed individuals and cohabiting spouse or common-law partner
(if the death occurred between November 1, 2020 and before May 1, 2021)
- Filing – 6 months after the day of individual’s death
- Payment – 6 months after the day of individual’s death
Self-employed Individuals, or
Deceased self-employed individuals and cohabiting spouse or common-law partner
(if the death occurred between January 1 and December 31, 2020, inclusive)
- Filing – June 15, 2021
- Payment – April 30, 2021
Corporations
- Filing – 6 months after the end of the corporation’s tax year (ex. End of tax year is March 31, so deadline of filing is September 30)
- Payment – 3 months after the end of the corporation’s tax year (ex. End of tax year is March 31, so deadline of filing is June 30)
Charities
- Filing – 6 months after the end of the corporation’s tax year (ex. End of tax year is March 31, so deadline of filing is September 30)
- Payment – not applicable
